Thematic Jewelry Project

Thematic jewelry in this project could be looked at in a number of ways.
  1. Thematic could indicate that multiple pieces of jewelry are being made from a similar theme or Idea. This could be the same as the J2 Coin medallions or it could deal with pendants, bracelets or something else.
  2. Thematic could be interchanged with Concentration. This is where a body of similar work is made.
  3. A concentration is used to build a body of work. Certain restrictions are imposed upon oneself and applied to all the jewelry made in that body.

This project might be the some of the semesters projects. At the end there should be at least 6 works if they are labor intensive or more if they are relatively simple to construct.
The constraints in the first slide show are the use of:
  • lashings as the predominant means of connections
  • textured wire
  • stones set in bezels
The second slide show has a fish theme with the constraint that they must be made out of scrap metal.
The constraints on the third slide show is the look of steampunk. Gears, buttons, and wires have been used to give this feel.
